If you have a sealable hot cup and you decide to sterilize it with hot water, and you seal it and turn it over to get the inside of the top well clean... do it over the sink.
At least my counter got nicely washed down.
Oh, and another one I neglected to share with you the other day: If you are heating oil in a pan and it's getting too hot, so that you take it off the heat and start to slosh it around in the pan to let it cool, be careful to not get too rambunctious with your sloshing. If a little oil splashes out into the flame of your stove it can cause a neat flash flame effect, which would be great on a cooking show but is a little startling when you do it by accident. (Then while I was all adrenalined out I went to open a container of honey and ripped the lid right off. Don't touch delicate things when you're full of adrenaline.)
