We had a great thunderstorm move through just when I had to run errands, today. I arrived at the recycling station probably just after the worst of the lightning had passed, but I noted as I never had before that I was planning to go move around between giant metal boxes which are in a very open area, and suddenly old training kicked in. A lightning strike might give me psychic powers or something,* but I don't really think I want to purposely court one. I decided to make a quick run to the grocery store instead, and come back when things seemed a little quieter.

*A guy I used to work with - who, I think may also have been a distant relative of mine - claimed he was able to dowse** after being struck by lightning twice.

**Dowsing = finding water with a stick, so people know where to drill a well. Still a respectable profession in Maine.
