Just before he left for work Eor was relating bits of a dream he'd had about how we got a variety pack box of snakes from Snakes R Us, and they were escaping one by one, and he had no idea what kind of snakes they were which were now slithering around our house. The cobra had been defanged, apparently, but that didn't mean they had all been made harmless.

I explained that the reason I kicked this morning, just before the alarm went off, was that I was fighting off a hammerhead shark.

I was in some small beach town where storefronts faced a strip of beach across the road, hanging in a doorway and watching storm surge pushing the waves up over the retaining wall and onto the road. A fin crested, and I thought it was a small whale of some type, maybe a Killer. I was watching and trying to get a better look as it surfaced here, and then there, and I didn't realize that the water was coming across the road, now, so that my escape rout was cut off. (All the stores were locked and boarded up against the storm, of course.) When the animal finally came up over the retaining wall and starting bouncing off the store fronts and I realized that it was a shark I thought I probably only had one chance - if I could nail it's nose with one good kick it might decide I was too much bother and just leave me alone.

Then it was coming at me and it occurred to me that a hammerhead doesn't really have a nose. It seemed as if the whole front of it's head was mouth (part of my brain immediately started arguing "is that the way they really look?" so I must have known I was in a dream). I couldn't imagine what I would be able to land a kick on, but I waited as it bounced on this side of me and then on that side of me, then came straight toward me opening it's mouth that seemed as wide as a garage door. I thought, "That mouth is just going to go around me whole, I'll just be kicking inside!" But I braced myself and got my leg up, focusing on his upper jaw and hoping his teeth wouldn't just cut my shoe up, until the absolute last second... Kicked! --and woke myself up.

I'm kind of glad real life isn't that exciting. :)

Oh, he was swimming through the air just at the end! Heh, I think I didn't put that because it didn't make sense to my writer mind as I was assembling it like a story. :)

At least sharks make a change from tornados, which I was sure I would dream about because of all the wind last night, which woke me up and sent me stumbling around the house closing windows down after things had already been knocked over. I'm terrified of tornados, possibly because I've never lived anyplace where they actually happen on a regular basis. I don't often dream about sharks.

Really oddly, though, I wasn't all that scared. Not like some dreams!
