While searching for something else entirely I came across a discussion of cost saving for the U.S. Federal gov't. Brief summary - some Federal employees get paid to commute to work, at least in DC, even if it's a holiday and they don't need to be at work. One person quotes there being 300,000 federal employees in the DC area... but that includes all the Post Office employees and everything. Another person counters that a lot of employees have to be at work on holidays, so shouldn't they still get that transit subsidy on weekends? I'm thinking it's highly unlikely that anyone who's at a level where they have to work on weekends ever gets a transit subsidy. I guess it's possible - I know that there was some slight mention once that if we could take the bus or some public transit to work we might get some partial amount of our costs back, but very few people around here can, because there just isn't much public transit.

I guess I could get myself a login and toss in my two cents worth, but it's too much trouble.

Here, have a look at my neighbor's blog. :) Some good stuff, though I'm feeling a little tl;dr right now.

Skipper was back, today, and class went much more smoothly, and we let the second class go for a lunch break and still did not run overtime. He had thought we had agreed to be at work at 7:30am every day, though, and I had thought he'd meant only Monday, sooo... he'll come in the same time I do, tomorrow. ;)

Unfortunately the management was apparently unable to respond to the need for us to take people off the floor for four hour stretches - they did not offer overtime. Yesterday I thought "well, they'll get caught up to this tomorrow." Nope. The discussions I heard were for next week. We'll be mostly done stealing their people off the floor by then.
