After running around the Old Port and getting rained on, but before going out to dinner, we hung around the house for a little while playing with YouTube and watching videos (while each of us got our clothes changed in the minimal privacy available in this apartment). Here's a couple we watched then, and another couple I watched this morning.

Hawk likes all the videos of his band done at the FolkLife festival earlier this year, but I think this is his favorite. I'm guessing it might be because he's using the bow on his stand-up, and he's just learning how to bow. Or maybe because this is a tune which is an original to them, not a cover.

Loose Digits, Solstice

Hawk also pointed us toward this one by Todd Kelley, another English teacher he hung out with when he was teaching in Korea. Hawk says the two young ladies in tight dresses are actually not local, they're English teachers also; one from England and the other from Canada. In fact, pretty much everyone in the video teaches English except the two Korean guys, who they literally dragged in from the next room, apparently, as they were filming. And of course the ladies cleaning up in the market. I really like those shots - they seem to have a fondness to them, as though the person with the camera really liked these women. A kind of "these are the people we really mean," as opposed to the "me love you long time G.I." ads at the end of the video. (Hawk says it's true and an ongoing joke that a lot of English teachers will grab the first Korean girl they can find to explain their phone bill to them in exchange for drinks.)

Todd Kelley, Soju Mama

This one I watched this morning and really enjoyed because Hawk's almost dancing with his bass. :)

Loose Digits, Lady Be Good

And now, randomly and completely unconnected to Hawkness, a non-music-video (short movie?) I watched this morning by way of [livejournal.com profile] doublefourtime... (I love fonts.)
