Just got back from the Thomas Point Bluegrass Festival - the 30th and final year. Had a really good time, saw some great acts, some young and unformed acts who were warmly encouraged, some ancient people who were cheered wildly because people were pleased they were still moving, and some performers we didn't particularly care for. I hope that the performers don't judge my reaction to them by how often I jump up out of my seat and run off to do something, because I can't sit still for more than a couple of songs, I'm just like that.

Probably the very best part was the late night picking after all the shows. They get a couple of bands to commit to being available for that, in set places, those bands are welcoming to people who want to play with them, and people who are just beginning to learn hang around on the outside edges and watch and imitate - and then a bunch of other small groups form, spontaneously, playing games of pickup. It's great for the short attention span listener - if you don't like what this group is doing you wander off to another - and it's great for the people who are just learning, and people get to know each other. Very cool. No, it's not "probably" the best part, it really is the point.

We camped there, though, so right now it's time for a shower.

....*showers*...

Oh boy, I had no idea that I was giving myself such an intense, localized, sunburn. A few square inches of my upper shoulder/lower neck resemble a well-cooked lobster. I DID put sunscreen on, and part of the day I even wore my overshirt (an old uniform shirt we took the patches off of, so white and of a loose weave). Um. But that was at 9am, and I was in the sun almost constantly until 5:30ish. :P

Should probably think about trying to sleep. I can sleep in tomorrow, because Eor doesn't have to work, but I need the rest, since, even though I've been sitting on my butt for most of two days, didn't get a lot of sleep last night, hanging out watching the picking until 2am. And even just sitting outside can wear you out, after two days. We really had to go, though, when we realized it was the final year. We do too much putting things off until next year.
