I feel as though I've spent all day cooking. Between cooking and eating and putting away I do think it's been about six hours, though.

Being preoccupied I forgot to call my manager before she went home. When I did call, the Supervisor on duty called her at home to let her know and she phoned me back from home. Our Supervisors are pretty good to us, most of them, and this one Manager is good to us. Unfortunately she could only tell me that the upper level Manager wants me to call the HR person. ("What she has to do with it I don't know, but that's what he wants you to do.") Which can't happen before Monday morning, and my pre-op thingywhatser (the thing where they tell you what not to do for the next few days leading up to surgery) is at noonish, so that's cutting it close. *sigh*

I started reading "The Liar" by Stephen Fry. Having already read his autobiography it's easy to see the things that happen to the main character in boarding school which he drew from his own life. Good story, though. I guess I could do without the interspersed chapters where there's some kind of cloak and dagger stuff going on in the future, but I know it will all come together in the end. I expect The Liar's skill at lying will help him in that situation.

I don't know if I can say that I really finished "Return to Neveryon," Samuel R. Delaney. I read all the story, but when I got to the essay on semiotics at the end of the book, where he dissects his own story, I was completely in over my head and eventually gave up.

Am having one of the beers [livejournal.com profile] groundctrl kindly gave me, which he made. They're good, I think - not being much of a beer drinker in general. It's as though when you're not used to something the subtlety of taste can't stay in your memory. I can only drink one bottle at a time, so I can't directly compare them, but I'm finding each bottle to be pretty pleasant. I wish Eor could/would drink beer so we could mete out a half bottle to each of us at a time and finish all the last three in one night so as to make comparisons. Anyone want to stop by and help me drink these last three beers?
