Why did I tell this woman I would meet her so early? She hasn't responded to say that she'll be there, it might be too early for her; I'm afraid I'll stand around for a half hour in the Post Office wondering whether they'll kick me out for loitering and she won't show up. Or worse, they WILL kick me out for loitering. ("I'm not loitering, I'm waiting for a friend" would make me sound like a prostitute.) I feel crappy and don't want to go out!

But there's a part of me that's saying, "Sure, you feel crappy now, but you'll feel better when you hit that fresh air and do something physical. It will be good for you!" I think it's my New England Work Ethic talking. It's descended from the Protestant Work Ethic but it has a Maine accent.*

Why so many server errors, lately? Are the LJ staff trying to convince us that their moving to new servers is going to be a good thing? That's tomorrow, is it?

*Sorry, that was totally a joke only for [livejournal.com profile] daegaer - she characterized her Protestant Work Ethic as sounding like a crusty old person, with an accent that I thought sounded Scottish.

Re: LiveJournal ... I read that they were under a DDOS attack, which was why there have been issues yesterday and earlier.

Apparently they (lj) had a DDoS attack going on, and there's some scheduled maintenance happening soon now, too.

It just struck me as odd that this DDOS attack should happen just before they had scheduled maintenance coming up. The timing of it might make people feel as though the maintenance is a small thing to put up with after all the inturruptions we've had, lately, and if, afterward, we don't have any for a while that might make people feel more kindly inclined toward the staff. I'm just cynical. (And it makes no difference if even on the new servers these sorts of attacks can still happen - the average person doesn't know that.)

Hm, I do see what you mean. But I'm not sure 6A are quite that bad? Maybe I'm just insufficiently cynical?

I've often said one can't be too cynical! Then again, I have hurt people's feelings by thinking them bots or spammers when they're just being dumb, so maybe sometimes you can.
