"The quoting of an aphorism, like the angry barking of a dog or the smell of overcooked broccoli, rarely indicates that something helpful is about to happen." --Lemony Snicket in "The Vile Village" (Seventh in the 'Series of Unfortunate Events')
I think I may just have to add that to my list of favorite quotes - political campaigns make one so sick of aphorisms.
41) "The Fourth Bear" - Jasper Fforde. A Jack Spratt mystery, and oh don't I love them. :) Oddly, I didn't get completely sucked in and unable to do anything else until I'd read right through, even though it was excellent, and I attribute that to the way he breaks the fourth wall so often - the characters talk about the plot holes, Jack thinks of someone as a "threshold guardian" character. I think that pulled me out and reminded me that it's just a story. But I still got all worried when things were really looking bad for poor Jack!
42) "The Vile Village" - Lemony Snicket. Seventh in 'A Series of Unfortunate Events.' Maybe it's just because I've been away from them for a while, but this one seemed like one of the best. It's such sillyness, and I love the word play. :)
