I just posted this on my OKCupid journal... (after appropriate crowing, of course, which I already did in my previous entry, I think. :))

I'm giddy inside. Nervous, too, because I want to see him do SO well, I want to see him be the most amazing president EVAH, so f***ing awesome that nobody touches him; I want him to make solar, wind and wave power the mainstays of our energy base; I want him to change school systems so that kids get taught good manners and proper interactions as part of their curriculum, as well as logical and critical thinking, and this Creationisn pseudoscience gets thrown out and laughed at like it deserves; I want a proper public transit infrastructure so infirm people who can't drive don't have to stay inside and isolated all the time; I want the common cold to be cured under his administration and the indiscriminate use of cellphones to disappear.

But what will I be not-disappointed with? Hell, I think if he lives through the next four years without getting assassinated that will be a triumph of a kind. It'd be cool if we can socialize health care so babies can stop dying (Hey, Right to Life, where the hell does our ridiculously high infant mortality rate fit in your scheme of keeping Republicans in office? I don't get it!) and put people to work rebuilding bridges before they collapse.

I honestly don't know what to hope for. I'm so excited that my brain has run wild with speculations, and I'm trying to keep myself in line so that I won't be disappointed. Because if we hope for things which are impossible we might be disappointed even if he actually IS the greatest president ever.

I think you're right, and I hope you're right too. Barring the unspeakable, Obama has the potential to pull us out of our financial ruin, extricate us from these pointless wars, bring health care to millions, repair our image with the international community, so much more. He has every bit of the charisma of JFK, and the intelligence and good heartedness of Jimmy Carter. I have great hopes for the next four years - The GOP has had eight years to steward America; "It's our turn!!"

Aaron says: "He's truly mythic, but I got up at 3:00 this morning, and that's about as artful and clever as I can be at the moment." (He had a court of appeals argument today and got up really early to study for it.)

Hugs!
