Had a great deal of fun co-teaching, today - smart people in the class. And funny. I was glad the managers had today off and didn't hear us laughing or they wouldn't let us teach again. :)
I may have made a convert to LJ. One of my coworkers who was in the class was quite interested in how it worked and the writing communities. Specifically fanfic, too. I guess Moose mentioned it to him. I suspect he won't be interested in slash, but he likes to write and thinks fanfic might offer him a creative outlet where he'll get feedback. He asked how much absolutely bad, horrible stuff there is out there and I said 90% of every type of literature is crap as a general rule. :) I hope I see him here, soon! :)

Re: found you!
You may find some people randomly friend you. There's no obligation to friend them back. I check in and read their journals every now and then and usually they're poor writers or not right in the head, or sometimes they're doing some kind of marketing scheme or scam because there'll be a link every now and then. (I wonder if these are the people who 'make money through blogging' - getting paid to write something to pass for a journal as a vehical for advertisements.) Yes, they'll be able to read things you post publicly, but I don't think they're reading anyone they're friending, they're just trying to get readers.
anyhow, blah blah. Oh, there is a convention that your journal is by default about your life, and when you post fic the subject line should be something like '[fic] This Is The Title Of This Story' and a fic tag can be appended when you post it.
Also, you'd want to put a header thing like...
Title: This Is The Title of This Story
Genre: AU
Rating: G
Author: jigsaw92301
Fandom: Gilligan's Island
Warnings: extreme silliness
and then put a cut, which is literally just [lj-cut] with < and > replacing the square brackets, which means that people don't have to see the whole thing unless they click through the cut. There is a limit on post size, too, so chapters become inevitable.
Anywho, my point was that if you post fic without headers and stuff people think you're crazy and dont' read you. ;)
