Well, I did what I said I wasn't going to do, but it's worked out all right, I guess.
Yesterday when I went to get the oil changed the Prompto refused to do it, claiming that the plugs in the oil pans of old VW vans break off too often and that they just aren't allowed to service them any more. Eor says that since the engine is only three years old that's completely bogus, but the way I see it if they've been forbidden from servicing a particular type of vehicle their upper management isn't going to care what the extenuating circumstances are.
Eor suggested I run up to Falmouth and be waiting in front of Morong at 7am when they opened, to try to get in this morning. I, of course, could not get my ass in gear, because I'm a loser like that. I ended up phoning them at 7:15 and found out that they're actually quite busy this morning, so made an appointment for Monday, 9am. I think this may have turned out to be the better option, because I'd have been annoyed if I'd driven up there and found that they couldn't fit me in. (And it gave me the opportunity to give young Eli the specs on the oil filter we'll need changed, so that if they don't have one in stock they might have a chance of getting it over the weekend.)
I'm also supposed to be meeting Phoebe for a walk and then breakfast, and if driving to Falmouth had bit into that time I'd have been even more annoyed. Yes, it's all about me, ultimately, isn't it?
Hawk arrives tonight! So I cleaned up my desk this morning. It's insane how bad I let things get when just a few minutes of poking at it can make things so much better looking. I keep telling myself I ought to poke at it for a few minutes at least once a week - then maybe I could get rid of some of the backlog of papers that I hide by shoving in drawers.
Let's see, what remains...? Dishes, shower, and put these cardboard boxes full of packing into the van to take somewhere and get rid of. A detail I haven't yet ironed out, as the UPS store down on Marginal Way - where I used to take packing materials to be recycled - has closed. *googles* Hm, I'll try calling Staples and see if they can take this stuff. What on earth did we do before Google? Just floundered around with the yellow pages, I guess. I remember being frustrated a lot.
