The cat clock which hangs on our kitchen wall stopped at ten minutes to 11 yesterday. I don't recall if I've ever changed the battery in the twenty years since my grandfather made the clock for me. Today I thought maybe it's time.
Now, I did know that the last time I looked at it the battery seemed to be growing hair at one end, so I tried the scrabble at the other end with my fingernails. It was having none of that. I tried prying it out with a spoon handle and all I did was bend the casing a little. It's not budging - it's corroded in place. I wonder if it would be the thing to do to spray contact cleaner on it?
The cat is ticking merrily away again, now that it's laying on the counter. I guess if I can't get the battery out I could just attach it to the ceiling. :)

Contact cleaner might work, and I've never met anything which WD-40 didn't help with (though given that it obviously has a ton of sentimental value, I'd be wary of using it too liberally... :S)
Still, as you say, it's working horizontally. Maybe it just needed a little lie-down after 20 years of constant, loyal service! :)
P.S. We has your President here at the moment. Can we keep him? ;)
