Microsoft wants me to upgrade to IE 8. I'm still using 6.0 because I hated IE 7 so much that I made Eor reinstall 6 for me. But he says he's reasonably sure he won't be able to do that for me again, if I try 8, because 6 is just too old. I've seen what I think are the newest versions of Word and Excel, and they suck like the friggin La Brea Tar Pits. (Why on earth would you make it so that the most used functions are hidden?) I can't imagine this is going to be pretty.

Grr. I'm as bad as a three year old when it comes to change.

Can we not tempt you over to Firefox? I find it nice and user-friendly, and yer get pretty themes with it! :D

[I know what you mean about the reluctance to change. I get very attached to certin software apps myself. I think a lot of it is the physical memory thing, with the perpetual "Oh-crap-I-went-to-do-this-and-it-did-that..."]

Yup and yup. You can keep IE on your PC as well, if you like - whilst you have to set one of them as your default browser, you can still run the other simultaneously too. It also has an ad-block option, which I really appreciate. :)

Of course, it's not perfect (though the only real problem I've had with it is occasionally at work, when I've exited it, and I'll get an error message appear when I try to log back in again, and so have to restart the PC), but I find it a lot more comfy than IE.

Here's the link - you might like to give it a go!

I'm going to throw my lot in with [livejournal.com profile] wolfie_sara. I LOVE Firefox, and it's customizable (using add-ons) to make it do whatever you want. It makes posting on LJ faster, as well as having an adblocker and things of that nature. Plus fun things like themes and such. It's worth a shot, and it's not hard to use at all.

I'll add my two cents about Firefox, too. I use it as my default browser here at home, and I love it--particularly the add-ons and custom skins you can download.

Also, IE6 lacks a lot of the security stuff that the newer browsers like IE7 and IE8 and Firefox have, so you're vulnerable to shenanigans if you use an older browser--particularly if that browser is not supported anymore.

As an add on to this, if you DO stay with IE, upgrade to IE8- it is easier to use, and a lot safer.
