I thought I had a dentist appointment today, but it's actually tomorrow. Glad I figured that out before I actually arrived there. Next Monday I have an appointment, too, for my yearly physical. It could have been the other Monday appointment which got me confused, or the fact that my pocket calender starts the week on Monday instead of Sunday as you would normally expect.

Talked to my brother, Eightball, this morning. He's concerned about Dad and wants to attend the service for our Uncle - there is supposed to be one in Maine, we just don't know when, as yet. Possibly I should get in touch with Aunt S and Aunt BJ see what they know.

Eightball has the same ideas I do about building a town, only he actually wants to DO it. I think he's aiming a little high. :) More power to him, but I've given it some consideration and I don't think it's practical. What you need to start with, I think, is a small town that's not too far from a train station (fifteen minutes - half hour drive) with regular service to some city with good hospitals. (And try finding one of those that hasn't been exploited to hell already.) But if you could, and then you could find investment money to run a regular bus line to the train station and start encouraging downtown development so that anything one might normally want would be within walking distance, then you might start advertising the town as a perfect retirement community. Even a start would be more than I can conceive of ever being able to do, because how would I get the investment money to run a bus line? Some people can schmooze that sort of thing, not me. I'd love to see it done, though. But what I want is to see it done everywhere, all over the U.S., accompanied by a huge expansion of our rail system.
