Oh my brain. Whenever I open my text editor to post I start coming up blank, even though there's always things I think of during the day. Well, recap of the weekend, then...

A weekend without social obligations means getting caught up on things around the house, so this weekend we investigated the cellar (damp and mildew! rotting cardboard! SPIDERS!) looking at the spare doors which have been shoved down there over the years with an eye to picking a couple that will fit on our bedroom and the doorway halfway down the hall. We moved more dead bamboo (more damp, mildew and bugs!), I got the oil changed in the car (very overdue, and necessary if I'm driving to New York State in a few days*), and I cooked beef curry.

I also got a birthday present in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] cyberquail - a tea cozy! It's adorable: flowery on one side and antique lace on the other. I hope I can keep it unstained! I'm hard on things. But it's very efficiently keeping my tea warm right now, and looking very styling while doing it. :D

And we walked a dog. A sweet, meek little (well, medium sized, but she tries to make herself look little) black, fluffy dog with very soft fur, named Luna. The neighbors are sitting her for a friend, but they were going to be out quite late last night so asked us if we would mind. Not at all! I adore dogs. Only, they don't adore me, apparently. I was completely unable to coax her out from under the dining room table when I went into their place. "Walk? Pee?" I waved the leash in the air, offered her a few kibbles. She was having none of it, just stayed under the table with the whites of her eyes showing. I wasn't inclined to try to force the leash onto her, because even the sweetest dog might bite when cornered and scared. So I called in the big guns. Eor had her out in just a few minutes, and by the end of their first walk together she was giving him that dog-smile look that says "I don't know how I got so lucky as to meet you, but you're awesome!" She continued to be leery of me. Ah well, I terrify small children and dogs. :) He said my first mistake was knocking on the door before entering, because only people who don't belong in a house knock. We went in together, stood around and talked in quiet voices, and then he called her out. And she came almost to him all in one go, but I was standing too close to him that first time, and she was so scared of me that she retreated. He had to get well away from me before she could stand to go to him, even though she seemed to really be drawn by the sound of his voice. Just weird. Makes me wonder if she's had bad experiences with women.

*I'm still nervous about the idea of driving, given that I managed to get lost and wind up in Bowdinham this weekend when trying to find the Sears to get my oil changed. An hour and a half to make a 20 minute drive. Ouch. I was pissed. And it was all because I hadn't thought through where I was going. And I don't have a cellphone, so I won't be able to call for help from Eor or Eightball if I get lost, or from AAA if I break down. Well, with the getting lost thing, I usually stop at a gas station or something and get directions, but with breaking down I'm not keen on being on the highway at the mercy of whoever might come by. I just keep reminding myself that is only a very slight possibility.
