How could life get much better? I'm beat, but we did the whole Freedom Trail with [livejournal.com profile] tronella, today. :D I suppose I shouldn't embarrass her by rambling on, but Tronny is super nice - no surprise at all to anyone who knows her, I'm sure! :)

We only did the tours of a couple of the locations - Paul Revere's house and The U.S.S. Constitution, because I'm fascinated by houses and tall ships. In both cases I am amazed at how so many people used to live in such small spaces. Paul Revere had at least 8 children at a time living in that house with four rooms. Not four bedrooms, mind you; two bedrooms, a kitchen and the dining/everything else room. And the Constitution required some 500 men to sail it and man the guns, living in a ship only 175 feet long at the waterline. (I consider the waterline to be more indicative of real, usable space than the overall length, which would likely include the bowsprit.)

And we climbed the Bunker Hill Monument. 294 steps. Ow, my aching legs! Actually, coming down was almost worse. On the way up I just thought my heart would burst; on the way down my fear of heights and lousy sense of balance started kicking in and reinforcing one another in the most delightful way (not). Still, in a way that makes it feel all the more like a victory having done it. I hope Tronny's legs aren't going to scream at her too badly tomorrow!
