I'm having a crisis. We want to leave this condo and find ourselves our own house and piece of land; frankly, the neighbors here never do a damned thing to help keep the yard and common areas in ship-shape*, and are often rather loud (I may have said that I think they're practicing for the Olympic furniture moving contest - they seem to move furniture every night, and sometimes appear to be assembling it as well). Well, I'll wish I had those skills, myself, soon.
But this afternoon as we were out pulling the japanese knotweed I looked around and thought that the area around the edge of the yard, which we won from the knotweed with such hard work, will all be inundated by the knotweed again just as soon as we go. It probably won't take more than a couple of weeks, because that stuff grows faster than anything else, and I doubt that anyone will make the slightest effort to keep up with pulling it. I feel a certain responsibility to every other pleasant plant to which we have given a fighting chance.
Still, it would be awesome to not have to pull the knotweed all the time. :)
Hm, someone's setting off fireworks. I'm just not used to the idea, yet, that it's now legal for anyone to have fireworks in Maine. One used to only hear them if something special was going on, the sound reminded you that some event you had forgotten about was happening, because any fireworks were planned and ignited only by trained people (and people still got hurt). Now the sound is just a reminder that any fool can burn your damned house down. *is a crotchety old woman*
My trials and tribulations are so First World. ;)

* Did I mention that each unit has a storage area in the garage, and that Unit 2 has ripped the handle off the door to their storage space? I'm so appalled by this, it's just ghetto. And there's now so much stuff just sitting randomly around on the floor in the garage that it's really hard to get anything in and out.
