Cyberquail, Kryptyd - Thank you both much for you kind words. I spoke to a couple of my coworkers about it, to try to gather other ideas on how to deal with him, and one said "You have to approach his ego, first, and then you can approach his person," which I thought was a good way of putting it.
For now, he's out of town until the end of the week, so today wasn't so bad. Aside from the craziness which always ensues this time of year as we try to get people prepared for the Practical Skills Examinations - it's mostly dealing with everyone freaking out at the thought of getting tested. It's amazing how people who do their job perfectly fine every day will get just wound at the idea of a test.
