Eor told me about this one. Talk about feeding our military industrial complex and pissing our money away.

'...according to Robert Springborg, an expert on the Egyptian military at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. In fact, he said, at least 200 of the tanks the U.S. has sent to Egypt have never been used.

"They are crated up and then they sit in deep storage, and that's where they remain."'

'The U.S. wants Egypt to have them in part because of people like Bruce Baron, president of Baron Industries, a small business in Oxford, Mich. "The aid that we give to Egypt is coming back to the U.S. and keeping 30 of my people working," Baron told me. Specifically, he said, 30 of his 57 employees are working on parts for the M1A1 Abrams tanks that we give to Egypt.'

And in much more important news to me - I left my metal travel cup at work by accident, broke my ceramic one last week, and Eor has taken his big plastic one to work on purpose, so I'm not sure how I'm going to carry my tea this morning.

...

Huh, and now I return from work and discover I did not post this in the AM as I had intended. Ah well. I got out at noon and went over to Staples to take advantage of their going back to school sale. I'm not going back to school, but I love school supplies. I'm such a dork. We now have six spiral bound one subject notebooks because they were on sale for one cent each. ;) Also Sharpies, white-board markers, little notepads for shopping lists, and special for me I got myself two pencil pouches. I was feeling terribly self indulgent - hey, it's my birthday week, and they'll help me neaten up my purse. :)

And then I went down to Bam Bam Bakery and played with my new school supplies while I ate a chicken pot pie. I love that there's a gluten free bakery in Portland. It was pretty busy there, too! And I got to do my good deed for the day - a little girl was .35 cents short at the counter and I covered it for her. :) I think she had planned it all out but forgot about tax.
