Last night's run with oil was made even more delightful by extreme cold and blowing snow coming down so fast that the plows couldn't keep up. We return home from that and Eor took his bath while I began to make supper, then he asked me to put aside the dinner prep in favor of going to bed early.

So we did, but I was lying awake because my head itched so badly. It felt like something was crawling around on my head. Around midnight I put two and two together - the six year old I was visiting with last week had an itchy head, I started getting a more itchy head at that point - and got up to do a search online for 'head lice'. Did you know it can take up to two weeks to start feeling them? I was so exhausted I started crying, because I have a cold and really wanted some sleep. So, I went to run a bath, not because I thought I could kill them, but just for the soothing relief of warm water on the irritated skin, and to get warm. And Eor got up because I was gone and calmed me down. Then, I think he thought he was going to make me feel better by looking and telling me he saw nothing, he took a look at the nape of my neck. He said I don't even want to know how many of the little creatures I have.

Luckily (or not) he really wasn't sleeping much, either, because he was coughing so bad, and bleeding from his sinuses.

I took a couple of Advil PM for the diphenhydramine and tried to imagine that they were pets on my head. That didn't much work, but I dozed fitfully until the alarm went off. I was going to get up and drive Eor to work and then take the car down to Portland and see if I can get studded tires, because it handles for shit in the snow. (I did slide off the road into a curb, yesterday.) Now, however, our plans have changed because neither of us got much sleep. I'll phone Century Tire and my doctor's office, and clip my hair.

Oh honey - you are having such a horrible time of it! As far as I know you don't actually have to cut your hair to get rid of headlice - just get the special shampoo and a nit comb (fine tooth comb) and be rigorous about following the instructions and washing your towels etc in a hot wash. Eor will have to do it as well as he's probably got them now too. Be comforted by the fact that they are incredibly common and easy to pick up these days, and apparently favour nice clean hair too - so they obviously looked at you adn decided you looked like a lovely new home for them!

*hugs*
