[livejournal.com profile] jimdes writes about Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement

[livejournal.com profile] eor writes about female Marines being killed

I guess one of the most interesting things to me was that [livejournal.com profile] jimdes and [livejournal.com profile] eor had back and forth over both these topics.  I do enjoy listening in as smart people converse.

And [livejournal.com profile] daegaer wrote many many ficlets, today, which are lovely, but I should definitely mention First Date since she kindly said it was for me and [livejournal.com profile] eor. :)  I passed on his suggestion that one of the Schwartz group would make a good match with Death, and I think she made the perfect choice with Farfarello, since he's just that insane - and she even took my suggestion that assassins might annoy Death by messing up his schedule.  *grins happily*

Lovely evening - Teena came over and hung out. :)

Now, must sleep.  Didn't sleep well last night, so kind of tired.  Tomorrow I have to do everything, because Sunday I drive to Belfast to visit Dad and see my stepsister's twin babies. :)  (Also, of course, her older daughter, who is a lovely and bright little girl, but this will be the first time for seeing the twins, because they live in Kentucky or some such place.)

Yes, I have stepsisters.  Three of them, and two step brothers.  People are usually surprised when I tell them that, because I don't mention them often.  I only lived with them during high school, and we don't keep in touch very well, and they generally don't seem to care to keep in touch with me, either.  Not that they hate me... I don't think, but I think Dad pushed her to phone me so that I would visit.

Damn - now I started watching Live 8, and I don't want to go do laundry.  But I have to.

Live 8 is coming to an end (although apparently they're going to keep it on eternal re-run all summer on AOL) - Paul McCartney is back on stage.  I adored hearing The Who and Pink Floyd.  Hearing, because I read fic all the while, as I ate my late lunch/early dinner, and just took an occasional glance over [livejournal.com profile] eor's shoulder to see how the guys were aging.  I, however, really can't remember all that well how they used to look - I've never paid that much attention to how musicians look.  I just know that good musicians are nearly always ugly.  I never had the opportunity to watch MTV at the appropriate stage in my development to become concerned with such a thing - music, for me, has always been something ethereal; something I happened to catch, something I replayed in my head or occasionally sang.

I do think, though, that Pete Townsend looked rather good.  Rather impressive that he can still perform given he's lost all the midrange of his hearing.

Paul McCartney looks ... the same as he has for, like, ages.  [livejournal.com profile] eor says his hair can't be all real.  :)

Of course I didn't get to watch all of this by a long shot, but I couldn't tear myself away to go to the laundry until after UB40's set. :)

Hawk phoned, sometime before UB40's set (how's that for a relativistic time reference?) and we discussed his plans for visiting, and music, and this and that.  Oh, and he gave me a couple of new lightbulb jokes:

How many lead guitarists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
How many? )

How many bass guitarists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
How many? )

I said that was really wrong, about bassists, because in my opinion the bass guitar anchors the music, which he seemed glad to hear.  I wasn't sure if he thought that I just said that to make him feel good.  I didn't.  I didn't really think about it when I said it.  But, I guess some lead guitarist once told him that nobody would ever notice a bassist missing, aside from it being a physical absence on the stage.  His opinion - that lead guitarist had no idea of how music worked.

It's 7PM - I should get more things done so that I'll be able to get started decently early tomorrow in order to drive to Belfast.

edited at 7:30PM to add:
Finally! Barenaked Ladies are on the stage in Toronto! *is happy* Half an hour after everyone else is done. :)

Barenaked Ladies were really good.  Okay, hrm, I guess I have to admit it - I had tears in my eyes during "If I Had A Million Dollars."

[livejournal.com profile] eor believes they are the true inheritors of the spirit of The Blues Brothers. :D

(Obviously I haven't gone to do all the other things I have to do today.  Really going, now.  Really.  No more spamming LJ.)
