This morning, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mamaslyth's post I started flipping through back posts of the webcomic XKCD and this one reminded me that I think it's a shame that the job of lighthouse tender doesn't exist anymore. Some people, you know, that's just what they should be doing. Made obsolete, people who should have been lighthouse operators are wandering the streets or working at McDonald's.
Mackenzie, you FAR from suck! What a delightful surprise! I opened the package wondering what the heck I could have ordered and forgot about (because I'm really good at that) and recognized the picture on the case just from the bottom edge of it, just the feet. I have no idea what "Girl From Brazil" is like, but it caught my attention from the reviews. Cool. :) There's a reason I have a wish list on Amazon - I can't even remember what I wanted when people ask me. But I think you're the first person who's ever looked at my wish list and bought something off it for me. :D (I wish more people would make wish lists because I can never think what to get for people.)
Rather silly of me, I know, but here it is - I do get attached to inanimate objects. I have a tiny little knapsack that my brother, Eightball, sent me for Christmas or birthday or something when he was in Korea, so I'm thinking at least eight or more years ago. It's just large enough, as he pointed out in the note he sent with it, to carry a small drawing pad or a hardcover book, and a bottle of water and my favorite sweater (which compresses unbelievably), and has a little front pocket just right for pencils, pens and erasers, which he knew because he had one similar. And so many times I got compliments on it - "So cute! Looks like you put it in the dryer and shrunk it!" and "You can fit all THAT in THERE??"

But, my wonderful little knapsack is now busting at the seams, probably from having been stuffed with all those things a few too many times. Normal wear and tear, really - I have used it rather a lot. The material it's made of is not really stuff that can be mended, so the time has come to let it go. I'm having an awfully hard time doing so, though. I bought myself a little satchel, today, which has almost the same internal space, and is just about exactly the little satchel I've been dreaming of and trying to find for years (and unfortunately I've intermittently snagged other, larger, much less right bags in between times and given Eor the impression that I'm just mad for satchels of any type).

but. but. but. I don't want to let go of the little knapsack Eightball gave me. :(
