I happened across [livejournal.com profile] buddhists because of something [livejournal.com profile] peak_in_darien said, and after reading for quite a bit longer than I had intended I ended up joining.  It's not alt_buddha_short_fat_guy (a usenet newsgroup back in the nineties), but then nothing ever will be again.  (eta: I suppose I can't keep pining for my lost newsgroup forever?) (eta yet again - the post Peak referenced which made me really think of absfg: woodchucks to nunchucks. :))

And then I did a quiz meme [livejournal.com profile] rowantree posted...

Apathetic
You scored 50% Concerned and 34% Certain!
Either these sorts of questions aren't the sort that you've thought about, or you have and find the whole thing to be rather silly. Of all the things to be worrying about, this hardly seems at all important.

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 99% on Concern

free online dating free online dating
You scored higher than 99% on Certainty

Whee, I seem to be spreading the Buddhist love. *g* I study Asian philosophy, and I find it fascinating... I'm not into metaphysics or analytic philos so much, but I love the strands of ethics and especially the experiential woven into it. It's tremendously exciting.

The Buddhist community on LJ is funny. *g*

Oddly, [livejournal.com profile] eor just bought a book on Buddhism and a book on "Teaism" this past weekend. There's something in the air. Autumn, perhaps.

I can direct you to [livejournal.com profile] eor's review of The Book Of Tea (http://eor.livejournal.com/156022.html), but mainly for the link he provides to Gutenberg so you can read it yourself if you want. It's not a tremendously long book, but he said it drew in all kinds of ideas of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. And, apparently, was fun to read. That's my next up, I think. :)

Wow, I scored almost the same as you, only I was 40% Concerned and 42% Certain; otherwise identical. I consider this a good thing. :)
