I'm actually pleased and impressed with [livejournal.com profile] eor's progress re foods these last two weeks - it may seem like baby steps, but this is not easy for him. He's always been a bit of a picky eater, but with good reason - his stomach is sensitive to so many things, and he spends a lot of time extremely sick when he eats things he shouldn't. Tonight we actually made arugula, and it was not disgusting! (Yesterday I totally did the wrong things with it. Don't cook it in olive oil. So bitter!) And he ate some of it! Not quite all, but he made a good try. :)

Earliest audio recordings ranged around 78rpm; Edison and Victor are the famous brands. Actual individual recordings you might attempt to play could have been recorded at any speed they liked at the time, 65 to 90 revolutions per minute, so he had to get a specially adapted DJ style turntable with variable speed.

How do you pronounce arugula? I also ate some of it yesterday... but it isn't called that here. :)

I pronounce it ah-ROO-goo-lah, and I have to admit that the real reason we ended up trying it is because I love the sound of the word. :D

*giggles* whaaat? Why would someone call a plant a 'rocket'? It's a leafy green thing, not a thing that shoots up in the air!

I think because it's called "roquette" in French? But I don't know where that comes from itself.

I have nothing to add except that it's very similar in Italian (and excellent with mozzarella balls).

And I always thought arugula must be an Italian word. Funny. I wonder where that name comes from?

I love rocket! It's yum! It's probably a bit.. I dunno... spicy to start with if you don't like eating green leafy things.

The stuff we got was NOT spicey. Possibly too young. I thought that should be better, but some websites say that younger arugula is MORE likely to taste bad. Raw it was bitter, but cooked in olive oil it was as bad as if you tried to bite into a burdock leaf, or dandelion in bloom. But blanching it and salt and butter worked. :)
