Summer arrives suddenly these days. We were on vacation last week, and spent most of the time at our property pulling down trees. We went from cold the week before last to suddenly hot at the beginning of vacation, flirting with heat exhaustion because we weren't used to that. And then after we packed our things and went out there in the van for a few days, it got cold again. Even though I've lived in this fickle state my whole life, she lured me in and I hadn't packed for it. We got a lot of sleep those nights, because we were NOT getting out of our sleeping bags until it warmed up a little.
Saw friends (who used to be neighbors at our last house) and family (The globetrotting Aunt and Uncle - Uncle J.N.W. very complementary of our work, and understood immediately the point of pulling down the trees rather than cutting them.) during that week, so it wasn't all hard work. But hard work is fun, in a way, right? Overcoming the challenge of a stubborn tree means the win is more of a rush. :) And then you look around and go "Wow, this is so different than it was!"
The summer workers are arriving at my place of work on Monday, so of course the yearly... um... issue has been raised - why the F do some people leave their dirty dishes in the sink for a month? We don't want strangers coming in and thinking we're all slobs. And IMMEDIATELY one of my coworkers said, "Just throw them away." She's been with us maybe a year, so she doesn't remember how this debate has gone in the past, but someone muttered "Karen." I explained (with some intensity) that people are not always using their own dishes when they do that, and throwing anyone's things away is THEFT, and I would rather wash all the dishes every week than have that happen to anyone else.
We were pretty busy at work, of course, because Memorial Day was Monday. And then I found out that it was supposed to be 'girls night out,' last night, so I joined four of my coworkers at a "speakeasy" for dinner. (It's not really, it's just hard to find.) Service was SO slow, because apparently the manager was the only person waiting tables. Food was good, the mocktail I had was good. But jeepers. We spent so much time waiting for things. And then she brought the bill all together. We didn't want to wait for her to sort it, so we all put our credit cards down and had her just split it 5 ways. Which worked out okay, because she had comped me $10 for not putting my burger on a gluten free bun, so that comp got split 5 ways.
I didn't get to bed until almost midnight, and then woke up at 6am when Eor got up to head to work... and then fell back asleep on the couch for an hour. Waking up took a full pot of full strength tea and quite a few squats and toe touches. Whaaaa..... blur. Now for a shower.
