Hershey's Kisses aren't quite the same without the fortunes in them. Those little paper strips had fortunes on them when I was a kid. Of course my Dad had to read them to me, because I couldn't read, yet. And right about the time I learned to read and was all excited to be able to read them on my own, they did away with them. Just not fair.
It's actually like a two-foot by three-foot space of dirt that I chunked up with a sort of pick-axey thing and tossed some bagged dirt down, then artlessly stuck in a few little plants (coleanthus, I think they're called - green and red variegated leaves) and some seeds - two different kinds of forget-me-nots (Victorians and blues... again, I think) and then some violets (King Henrys, maybe?) and a few more seeds of coleanthus? coleus?. I kind of feel as though it's a waste of space to not have vegetables in there, but at the same time this is a little experiment to just see if I can get anything at all to grow out there. It's so shady, and I had to grab seeds and plants that were advertised as doing well in shade. It's a stretch between the sidewalk and the road, with a largish tree on either end shading it nicely.
I think before I tackle the rest of this space - there's another three or four yards of barren dirt, still - I might invest in a hoe.
A cute girl came by and said "pretty!" :)

(18) "The Amber Spyglass" - by Philip Pullman, just now.
While I was on vacation, (16)"The Eyre Affair" and (17)"Lost In A Good Book" by Jasper Fforde.
Truthfully, although I feel as though Philip Pullman has Great and Noble Purpose in his writing, I enjoyed the Fforde books more. They both made me tear up, though. Maybe I'm just a bit softie, lately.
I feel a powerful need for some slash to offset all this seriousness. Or possibly even some yaoi.

First day of class was confusing and disappointing to me. I thought we'd go over the actual stuff we're teaching, or something about how to teach, but all he did was a brief overview of the textbooks we'll be using - jumping all around so I was totally bewildered - and then left early saying we could read it ourselves. Am still glad to be doing something that's not Checkpoint, but more scared than ever about this. Tomorrow I have the day off, in exchange for working Friday. Tuesday I begin watching him teach a class, and after watching one group go through he makes me teach one and watches me, and then I'm on my own.
