protestant or prostitute

Why did I tell this woman I would meet her so early? She hasn't responded to say that she'll be there, it might be too early for her; I'm afraid I'll stand around for a half hour in the Post Office wondering whether they'll kick me out for loitering and she won't show up. Or worse, they WILL kick me out for loitering. ("I'm not loitering, I'm waiting for a friend" would make me sound like a prostitute.) I feel crappy and don't want to go out!

But there's a part of me that's saying, "Sure, you feel crappy now, but you'll feel better when you hit that fresh air and do something physical. It will be good for you!" I think it's my New England Work Ethic talking. It's descended from the Protestant Work Ethic but it has a Maine accent.*

Why so many server errors, lately? Are the LJ staff trying to convince us that their moving to new servers is going to be a good thing? That's tomorrow, is it?

*Sorry, that was totally a joke only for daegaer - she characterized her Protestant Work Ethic as sounding like a crusty old person, with an accent that I thought sounded Scottish.

I left here at 7:30, I got back at 10am, two half hours of that were spent indoors, reading. It's raining (lightly). I'm beat. She didn't catch up with me at either place. It is NEVER a good idea to try to make plans for 'tomorrow,' there's not enough time for back and forth.

Why do moms e-mail recipes? I don't get it. I mean, yeah, we do cook more than some people, but we don't cook just anything. I wrote back and explained that we don't eat onions, beans, flour or yeast,* and that's why we cook a lot - because we can't eat out. Taking two ingredients out of each of the two recipes she sent just seems like it would be a little silly. Although possibly a somewhat passable imitation of a cinnamon roll might be made without wheat or yeast. I might even try, some day when I'm motivated.

The rain has increased. I've had my shower and actually used the hairdryer - that's how you can tell that I'm sick and it's cold in here. I'm very tempted to spend the rest of my day in pyjamas and drink rum, but I'm trying to avoid acting completely dissipated while on this time off. I may spend all day reading slash, but I'm wearing clothes, dammit. ;)

Off to do some dishes. (Even dishes could be made better with more rum... and possibly pirates. I'm not sure how to fit them in, though.)
